In the modern era, it is rarer to find someone who does not utilise some form of social media. This in turn can make it a useful tool for libraries to use. Facebook, for example, remains the world's most used platform. If a library were to create a public page announcing events, new stock and the like, this would increase engagement with the local community as Facebook provides location specific recommendations to user interactions.
Additionally, libraries can also track the level of engagement with any posts they create as many social media platforms have an analytics page that creators of the account can access. This can not only allow libraries to track engagement but additionally determine if there is a trend with the content it is providing and plan according to the results.
